The NS Gerbois sawmill is committed to a broad approach to sustainable development. This means having a positive impact on society and its employees, working with respect for the environment and resources, while being economically viable and sustainable.
OUR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Integration and training
The strength of NS Gerbois lies in the expertise of its multigenerational teams. We aim to maintain and nurture this approach. We regularly recruit new employees of all ages and backgrounds. All employees are supported and trained throughout their careers. We allow them to acquire new skills, grow, and adapt to the modernization of the sawmill and the wood sector.
An inclusive organization
NS Gerbois designs its organization to best adapt to each of its employees. Our goal is to continue improving the well-being of our employees at work. Our employees are consulted and included at every stage of production and can express their views on all important company decisions.
Workplace safety
We invest in continuously improving safety in our workshops. The work environment in a sawmill is demanding and rigorous. We work daily to strengthen safety procedures and risk prevention with our teams.
OUR ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENTS
Local and responsible sourcing
We source our logs within a 100 km radius of the sawmill from forest operators managing forests in a responsible and sustainable way.
To learn more about our sourcing, see the “our sourcing” page.
Efficient resource management
Wood is a valuable resource with a long lifecycle. It is our duty to optimize the use of this resource that has been entrusted to us.
All our waste and by-products are processed and repurposed to be transformed into wood panels and other derived products in the wood industry.
Our current machinery is efficient and adapted, but it is based on standards from over 20 years ago, which are very energy-intensive. In the coming years, we plan to invest heavily in new, modern equipment that is much more energy-efficient and has a limited impact on the environment.
